| Washington National Cathedral Upgrades with Selecon &
Parlights February 15, 2005
|
Selecon Pacific Ellipsoidal Spotlights equipped with CDM lamp housings and integrated dowsers were selected by the Washington National Cathedral to upgrade the Lighting in the High Altar Area of the landmark facility in Washington, DC. CDM Master Color arc-amps were selected as the source for the project because of their high color rendering and long lamp life (approx. 10,000 hours). The Selecon CDM fixtures offered an advantage for the project, as the Pacific Dowser assembly mounts between the lens tube and the lamp housing at the gate. This location for the dowser minimized the visual impact of the equipment, when compared to a dowser assembly mounted in the color frame. Additional lighting is provided by (5) Altman Star*Par Tungsten Flood Fixtures. Dimming and Control for the new equipment was achieved via the existing Strand Lighting Dimming and Control System, installed by Parlights in 2002. Consisting of (10) dimmer racks distributed throughout the expansive facility, the Strand System distributes data via a ShowNet lighting control network. |

|
Control over the new and existing equipment is performed via Strand's Premiere Architectural Control System. The fixtures are mounted to custom vertical tormentor assemblies, designed and fabricated by Parlights as a custom solution for the project. The recent upgrade for the High Altar lighting replaced an array of existing PARs, floods, and ellipsoidals - some of which dated back to the 1960's. |
Strand Lighting, a Registered WYSIWYG Developer, has announced closer integration of Cast Lighting's WYSIWYG Visualization Program with their LightPalette Control Consoles. All Strand 500 Series (LightPalette) control consoles now ship with the latest edition of WYSIWYG Perform Console Edition. Connecting the newest version of WYSIWYG CE to a Strand ShowNet network allows users to match the full capacity of their Strand Console to WYSIWYG for the first time. Users will no longer be limited to 512 DMX addresses and will now be able to display up to 8,000 devices on a 500 series system. | Parlights Solution at Mercersburg Academy Comes
Online December 1, 2004
|
Installation of an integrated performance lighting solution at the Mercersburg Academy Chapel in Mercersburg, PA is complete. The system, featuring (48) Entertainment Technology BakPakTM Dimmers mounted to the yokes of Strand Lighting SL Series and Fresnelite Spotlights, was designed and implemented by Parlights to provide additional lighting for the crossing and choir areas of the historic chapel while minimizing visual impact to the facility. The fixtures are mounted to custom horizontal and vertical pipe battens throughout the chapel, designed and installed by Parlights. The solution, designed by Parlights at the request of the Academy, integrates BakPakTM Dimmers, Strand Fixtures, a Strand 300 Series Console, and EDI Architectural Dimmers and Controls. |

Detailed drawings were developed by Parlights in-house CAD team from the original 1930's vintage blue prints for the building. Exact equipment locations and details were drawn to give the customer a clear visual representation of the proposed installation. "You want to be very clear about what you what you are talking about" said Walt Dowling, primary Systems Integrator for the project, "when you are talking about drilling holes in an Architectural Masterpiece." Following review and approval by the Academy, installation began. Installation was complete in time for the Community Chorale's Christmas Concert. Additional Lighting was required in the facility because many Campus events will be held there following the demolition of the existing Auditorium, and pending the completion of a New Performing Arts Center. Auditorium August 31, 2004
|
Parlights has completed the installation of Performance Lighting Systems in the New Auditorium at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The High Profile facility demands reliability, flexibility, and performance. The Primary Lighting (front light) for the stage is provided by (12) Vari*Lite VL1000TSD Automated Ellipsoidal Spotlights mounted on (3) Front of House trusses. These fixtures allow the operator to reposition the lights quickly, as well as modify beam, color, and pattern attributes without getting up on a ladder. Changes to the lighting in this facility are often required on very short notice. The FOH trusses, as well as (3) overstage lighting trusses, are suspended via Chain Master BGV-C1 motors, which are rated for the suspension of loads over audience members and performers. Motor positioning, preset recall, and safety interlocks, and status reporting are accomplished via a Chain Master PC based control system. Motors and control were provided by Show Distribution.. |

Overstage Lighting is provided by an array of Strand SL and Fresnelite Spotlights, with dimming via Strand CD80SV Dimmer Racks. Data distribution for the Automated Fixtures, dimmers, and data receptacles throughout the facility is accomplished via Strand ShowNet connected to an MA Lite console via a Strand SN110 Network Node.
